Tune up info needed

My runner will be needing a tune up soon and it will be my first for this vehicle. I am planning on replacing the following:

-plugs
-wires
-dist cap & rotor
-fuel & air filter
-O2 sensor

I've read here where Denso & NGK are preferred for plugs(is either better or about same?) and OEM for fuel filters, but what about the plug wires, dist, and O2 sensor?

NGK for sparkplugs.....and OEM for O2 sensor (kind of expensive...but the previous owner of my truck put an aftermarket one in my truck and it never ran right till I put a new OEM one on there.....) And everything else...i dont know.

We have vendors on belonging to yotatech (strap). You can get great deals on OEM stuff from them.


The fuel filter is a PITA on the 3.0 (IMO). I'm not ever doing it again lol.

Use OEM plug wires.

I used Denso plugs.

lube up the chassis points, such as the driveshaft, ball joints and i think the rear on the coil runners has some stuff on the rear axle.

i had a 91 4runner and the fuel filter was on the frame rail its not that hard for plug wires and plugs go with ngk i got a air filter from napa and its worked great

Depends on your ability I guess (my wrenching ability = ZERO). Living in the rust belt never helps either. I noticed ZERO improvement in any fashion (mpg, driveability, acceleration, etc) on an original fuel filter with 200,000 miles.

I second that. I was so excited when I changed mine, but after getting gasoline all over my face and arms, and then taking her out for a spin, I was utterly dissapointed. I didn't feel anything, that's for sure. Also, time has shown me that there was absolutely NO change in fuel economy after doing this.

Not to say that this isn't necessary to keep everything running properly, it's just over rated in my opinion.

I have used Bosch Platinum plugs in my truck since it was new and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I have also used NAPA for the cap and rotor. When I got the truck no one else in town had a cap for it but NAPA so I got it from them. It worked fine so I continued to get my tune up stuff from them.

My experience with the fuel filter mimicks those above me. I've never felt a difference. I just try to make sure it gets changed every 100k or so.

Thanks 8422 - I almost forgot it - it's now on the list. Once again, is there a brand preference for PCVs? OEM? I know it's a pain to get to on this engine and I only want to have to do it once.

I had heard from someone else as well that toyota fuel filters last a long time and don't need changed often. I'm thinking of changing it because the truck is new to me and it does have 150k - at least then I know it's good.
