Truck not starting. Help!

Okay. You know when u have a bad battery connection it just ticks. like tick tick tick when u try and turn it over.

so i cleaned all my terminals and even put new ones on it.

I'm thinking it might be my ground to my engine. or the alternator. might be bad and its not charging my battery because the battery is brand spankin new. like 2weeks old.

have a voltmeter?
if so check the voltage at the battery- should be around 12v.
then check it while having someone try to start it- shouldn't drop below 10v.
if it does, the battery may not be charging properly.
if it doesn't drop at all, try jumping the starter: take a small piece of #12 wire and connect it between the battery terminal on the starter and the small terminal on the solenoid. if the starter activates you may have a bad starter relay or an issue with the ignition switch. if it doesn't activate, the starter solenoid contacts may be bad, the solenoid itself could be bad... or you have a ground issue.

If signs point to solenoid, give it a little jolt with a hammer. The drive pinion used to stick on my old toyota.

I have seen starter flywheels break and cause this issue as well. So if the advice the previous two posters does not help you could have a broken piece jamming up your starter.

just because the battery is brand new doesnt mean that its good. i have had an optima go bad 3 weeks after getting it, and my gf's interstate was defective and took a dump 4 days after installation. check your battery and make sure its holding a charge.
