Transmission Slipping

As i shift into drive and start to take off there is no accleration, the engine only revs up and then eventually it will take off. This happens at every stop i make. Also my O/D light flashes on and off a lot? Anybody have the same problem? I have a 1993 4Runner 4WD 180K miles v6. Any help would be appreciated.

Try pulling the codes for the tranny. More than likely a shift solenoid is going. Easy to change them out. Grab the codes the same way you do when timing the engine just watch the o\d light instead. You may have to tap on the accelerator to get it to flash. Sounds like a solenoid though. So prepare for the sticker shock at the price of them or try to find one in a junkyard being carefull to get the same year tranny. Some of the solenoids have different specs.

I'd check the fluid level as mentioned, fill it and then take it for a flush before doing anything else. Not a drain and refill, but a flush. Friend of mine had the exact same issues and a flush and refill fixed his problems. The more expensive alternative will still be there if that doesn't work.

found out that the o/d light blinking is a tranny trouble code.... will be addressing that soon...did some searching and found out it is either a shift sensor or a speed sensor... i will post an update when i get things sorted out...

Any update on this problem?

I'm having the exact same problem as mentioned by several people above. Is there any update as to the cause/fix?

After about dumping 2k into my runner after purchasing it used the tranny seems to be acting up with 250k... I know that's a lot of mileage and they don't last forever but here's hoping i can get more out of it.

My problem is about 50% of the time (mainly when its warm) i take it out of park and put it into reverse or drive nothing happens. By putting it back into park and trying again sometimes it starts working again.

Once its in drive it works ok but accelerating from low gears i've noticed it revs quite high before shifting, especially on cold take off.

No idea when or if the tranny has ever been flushed but checking the level it was overfilled so i drained a pint but it did no difference.
I've read weak springs in the tranny can cause this does anyone think this could be the problem? Should i try a tranny flush first? probably the cheapest bet.

Thanks

I looked online and it might not be a good idea to flush with 160,000 miles on it... I think i'll try to determine if the problem is electrical or mechanical first but i don't know what kind of tranny i have (A340e, A340f or A340h) it's a 93 4Runner, Auto, V6, 4x4. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
