Trans and engine stuck
I bought a class 7 desert racer project that has a 22ret and the heavy duty R151 (?) trans. We pulled the motor today because I'm going to go though it and convert it back to non turbo.
Anyway, my problem is this, we can't get the engine and trans seperated.
Its past the dowels in the motor, but now it just seems stuck.
Is there something I'm missing? This isn't my first overhaul, but it is my first Toyota, so thanks in advance.

I think you nailed it. getting even pressure on the bell housing to pull it apart would be really nice. maybe some of those clamps that can be used for prying apart aswell as clamping? (mini high-lift jacks?)

I've had that happen to me on an old Volvo station wagon (worst car I ever owned). The pilot bearing failed and welded itself to the input shaft. The bearing then spun and fused to the crank. I spent the better part of a day trying to get the tranny off the back of the engine.

Lots of colorful language, wooden blocks, a pry bar, and brute force.
Actually, if was smarter then, I should have tied a hand winch to the output flange and the rear axle and just winched the bugger out. Those 2-ton hand winches are really handy.

The winch idea could work too, the only thing is that he already has the trans and motor pulled, so he would have to secure the motor some how to reef on it.

well if it was my truck, I would be doing it this way. tie it to the diesel truck, 4wheel low, first gear and let the clutch out. (that could go very badly) DON'T DO THAT !!!!! the come-a-long or hand winch would work fine. Good luck

Well, this thing was seized! We chained the engine and trans to 2 opposing forklifts and pulled. And after some scary noises, and some damage to the clutch, they came apart. Everything else seems good.
