Unhappy Tranny Removal

So everyone and their brother kept telling me my transmission would be easy to get out. A 2wd rwd pick-up truck how hard could it be?

It wouldn't be my first transmission R&R, as I am an import mechanic by trade. I have access to books and I know the whole procedure. However...

Well once I got the damn thing busted loose I couldn't seem to get it out of the damn truck without the bellhousing catching and scraping across the pressure plate. The truck is about a foot and a half in the air on some stands. I am wondering if there is some trick I don't know to getting these in and out.

Do you know? Is there a special way to fish the tranny up in and around the crossmember that the torison bars anchor into?

Oh and it was a good thing I pulled it out, 3 of the springs on the clutch were broken loose and partially worn down a little.

soooooo

you want me to cut out the crossmember that is welded into the truck??

Its a 2WD truck the setup is different than the 4WD.

On the 2WD the tail end of the tranny sits on top of a crossmember which DOES NOT come out as it is permanently welded to the frame. Trust me, if I could have taken the damn thing out I wouldn't have been under the truck until 2am trying to bench press the tranny.
