tranny help
today after drving home from my mornign workout I dropped my buddy off at his house adn when i tried to shift into reverse it grinded. I stopped made sure i had the clutch all the way in then tried again it still grinded. Then i turned to truck off and put it in reverse and started it and was able to back up his driveway. Then driving shifts became very hard and i really had to muscle it into first then also into secong but third was ok. I got home and tried reverse again and i still would grind. I have a 87 4runner with a 22re and 5spd. I am wondering what could be happening and mabey what needs fixed?

Did you check the gear lube level?
If it runs out of oil it will do crap like that. I'd start by getting a quart of gear lube and just squirting it in there so you can see if the level is ok...

i figured out what was wrong with it its all brand new stuff the master the slave and the clutch (clutch 600 miles ago) but anyway i found otu that i need to adjust the pedal because the pedal would hit the floor befor the slave would push far enoguh to completely disengage the clutch so hopefully when i adjust it tonight it should fix the problem.

i know a common problem with early gen 2 4runners is the bracket that holds the pedals will actually crack, allowing it to flex instead of the pedal pushing through all the way. i had it happen to my old 4runner(1990). i pulled it out and layed a good thick bead over the crack and in some other places that looked weak and it worked great. if you search on here i know there is a thread about this, thats how i found this solution
