I have a question that i hope someone can answer, when you add the larger AFM, because its bigger doesn`t it lean out the air fuel mixture a little because its flowing more air ?. Are our trucks (22RE`s) set to run a bit rich ?, im just wondering because ive read that some are leaning out the larger AFM to get better gas mileage, so if you do lean it out a little and go to far will you get some pinging from the engine more or less telling you that its to lean ?. When i added the larger AFM to my truck i richened it up two notches, but im thinking of putting it back to stock and then going one notch leaner, any opinions on this ?.

That was a question I asked- I'm watching my tailpipe for difference in soot buildup- I really need a WD O2. Offhand, I would say no difference, I'm thinking the AFM is telling the ecm how much air is being let in- not the ecm calculating how much air is being let in?? I run 89 octane and ignition is +4deg over the 5 already- no pinging.

so who needs an AFM from a supra that doesn't plug and play? I might have read that wrong but if needed or if anybody is looking for one i have an extra AFM of of a 1985 supra as a spare incase my 82 unit breaks and i have to fix it. i Would be willing to sell it for 20 bucks and ship on your dime. And for those of you needing an extra throttle body i have one from i believe a 1991 22re. Same price and ship 20 bucks and shipped on your dime. I think dfarr67 is right on the fuel mix not leaning out since i've used the supra AFM i have yet to notice a lean condition. Just throwing those parts out there incasde some body wants them. other wise i'm very interested in the throttle body over bore and if it's a cheaper option than lc's unit.

Ok, what if you lean out the AFM by two notches, would that possibly gain you a little better gas mileage ?, as long as you don`t hear any pinging i would assume it would be ok ?.

Ideally you need access to a wb O2 sensor or a dyno- that said even a government emissions dyno would work, in Vancouver it's $25 to pass through the emissions dyno, take a base line and adjust away- that way if it leans out too much you'll actually see it- if not hear it.
