So, I'm on a campaign to figure out whats causing my terrible gas mileage...
(92 3.0)
Things replaced:
Air Filter
Plugs and wires
Rotor & Cap
O2 sensor replaced.
Timed with a timing light.

I've heard on here that a stuck cold start injector can cause major gas hoggage... So I took mine out tonight and it was Dirtttty...



Now its clean! yay

Now, can I take that nut off thats holding the plastic part on? I would like to take it totally apart to make sure its not sticking... Anyone ever taken one of these totally apart before? I just want to know if I can take it apart anymore than it already is without damaging it! Thanks!

I wouldn`t recomend taking it a part, its an expensive part if you break it and have to replace it.

Don't take it apart. Like he said, they're expensive boogers, if you don't know what you're doing. Of course, they can be rebuilt, but you have to have the parts for that.....and, again, know what you're doing.

I'd suggest hooking it back up to the fuel line and plugging it in.....but, leave it out of the plenum for testing. To test, take a paper clip and short the FP and B+ terminals in your diagnostic box. This bypasses the ignition switch, pump relay switch and the AFM switch so that it continuously runs. Let it build fuel pressure and watch to see if leaks. If it does, you know it's "stuck" and have it rebuilt. Cheaper. IF it doesn't leak, it's fine.

ew... looks like mine that I pulled off of my 22re when I cleaned the intake manifold out. I just scrubbed it off with a brass wire brush with some parts cleaner on it, and it looks brand new now. I also did as mentioned; that is, testing it before reinstalling. My main issue and reason I cleaned the intake out is because it had that nasty black crap you see there built up all inside the manifold about 1/8 inch thick! It plugged up all the vacuum ports in my throttle body and everything, so I tore everything apart, cleaned everything out, put her all back together, and all is well now. I doubled my gas mileage after that and an O2 sensor, lol.

It seems to be running alright... I've got that 'noisy' tick though... Sounds like just a noisy injector though?... Its not an engine knock, that's for just.... Just and annoying tick sound...

Alright, so I jumped those two terminals, plugged it back in, connected the fuel line and then tried to start the truck... MIST!!!!!!!!!!!! It was misting VERY well... So is it stuck open? What does it cost to rebuild one?

Well, it supposed to "mist", so long that it stops after a few seconds. How long did it do that, or did it not stop at all? If it didn't stop, then yes it's stuck open or leaking badly.

Alright, so I tried to start it again and it did stop after about 2 seconds... Am I supposed to be able to start the motor without the cold start injector connected?

meh, you'll be able to, but it'll be harder to start. Plus, if you still have it off of the plenum and try to start it, there's a huge vacuum leak there where it goes . But if it stops misting and doesn't leak afterwards, then it's working fine.
