just a click when starting could be the contacts in the starter solenoid. don't know what that has to do with the head gasket? you can clean the contacts or replace the starter.

You sure the battery isnt low? It doesnt have to be completely dead for the starter to not have enough juice to crank.

I would say this is NOT at all related to the HG, there's an electrical problem somewhere's. As mentioned above, check connections, try to boost, if you've got a voltage meter check your battery voltage. Check contacts on battery, ect...
good luck.

I assume the battery was disconnected so are the terminals tight?

uh oh, you've don it now... it'll never run again...

jk...

Like other's mention, start with the simple things...

1) Is the battery fully charged? If the HG job took a while, the battery could have drained a bit just sitting around. Try jumping it; if she starts, take her for a drive to recharge the battery, or if you have a charger just charge it over night.

2) Make sure your terminals on the battery are clean and tight; 75% of the starting problems I've seen in the past were caused from a bad connection at the battery.

3) Make sure the connection to the starter is tight and intact. I don't think you would have had to mess with it for the HG job, but just double check it.

i just tested the starter and it passed with flying colors, guess im going to replace the cables, after that the fsm's troubleshooting recs are the neutral saftey switch and ignition switch which hopefully are ok.

Here is a quick check you can do in the vehicle to see where the problem lies:

Does the engine turn over by hand?
If the cam timing is off then the valves and pistons may be hitting each other and preventing it from turning over. of course there could be other mechanical reasons as well
