Stand alone wire in stereo area

Title says it all. I’m doing a reverse wire harness chop in my 87 4Runner. Someone added a pull out deck back in the early 90s I believe. Simply cut the factory plugs and hardwired the tape deck in. I have successfully soldered and installed my new stereo but there is a single stand alone wire that isn’t in the radio wiring schematics, everything seems to be working and I can’t figure out what it is. Doesn’t show any voltage on my meter. It’s red with a black stripe and black dots as well. It comes out of the same loom as the stereo wiring . Any help appreciated. I’m looking at my FSM diagram but not seeing it, it’s probably staring right at me.

Could it be in the antenna schematic? I’m not home for a few days, but when I get there I’ll check. I remember that wire when I was repairing my loom, but that was a few years ago.

Is there anything not working??

There is a red/Black wire that is the source for the radio light controlled by the tail light circuit.

check for the voltage with the parking lights on.

it is in the tail light circuit as the light is not shown on the radio circuit.

Good luck!!

from the FSM, the power antenna would have a red w/green stripe. the radio light should be red w/black stripe.

i believe it is the radio light, would that have a very low voltage? It looks like it’s getting about .6 volts when the lights are turned on.

ok, found it in the illumination and tail lamp area. Looks like there were a number of red/black wires for various options here. None of which I am currently using, although I did just find a new stereo bezel in better shape than my old one and it has the illumination ring around the cig lighter. I’ll bet I can run this wire to that. Will report back. Thanks guys .
I’ll call this mystery solved!

That circuit is controlled through the rheostat if that is turned down low it will reduce voltage .

When the rheostat is turned all the way up you should have battery voltage.
