Spindle nut preload
Hey guys I have a little problem. Just replaced the rotors on my 1993 Toyota v6 4x4. The drivers side went in without a hitch. When I put the spring gauge on and turned the hub I got 7.3 lbs. The passenger side was done the exact same way. I can't get more than 1.7 lbs with the spring gauge. I believe minimum spec is 6.8 lbs. I've checked and re- checked. I always get 1.7 - 2.0 lbs. I tried tightening the spindle nut more but that only gets me to 2.2 lbs with the spring scale.
Any ideas on things I could be overlooking? Should I put it together like this and drive it for a few days? Then recheck. If I tighten the spindle nut up to about 50 lb ft it might work. But this is a long way from the 18 lb ft in the FSM. Which would be the lesser of the two evils? Any help is welcomed. This truck needs to be on the road in the next couple days.
Thanks,
Jason

I cleaned the bearings off completely. No abnormal wear. Repacked with amsoil synthetic grease and re-installed in the same locations. Races appeared fine. It wasnt taken apart because of any sort of problem. Just normal maintenance while it's down for engine repairs. All the same parts were used for reassembly. It rotates nice and smooth. Seems solid. I checked and re-checked my procedure. Then did it with a partner as well incase I was forgetting something. Would it be better to have more torque on the spindle nut to get it in spec? Or use recommended torque on the spindle nut but have less force required to rotate the hub? What is a safe torque to go on the spindle nut?
Thanks
Jason
