coolant leak points on backside of 3vze

Hi guys, trying to locate a source of a coolant leak on my 1990 3vze.

(truck, 4wd xcab)

it is inconsistent, not necessarily all the time drip, but only sometimes, but at times its a pretty good stream that runs down from near the top of the transmission and onto the ground. other times, not a drop.

i originally thought it was the u hose or the coolant temp sensors or anything in that area, (and replaced those things) but even as it is pouring coolant, that area is dry. which most likely means it is below that area. probably close to where the Y pipe hides everything.

so what is around there? freeze plugs? the inconsistency is strange, but i have no good theories.

help!

Have you found out where your leak is coming from? I have a 95 4R that had a leaking injector which leaked fuel back there. I pulled the intake off and replaced all of the injector o-rings. Now that it's back together I am getting something dripping from the bottom of the exhaust crossover pipe behind the engine along with smoke. I checked everything around the coolant temp sensors and hoses but they are dry.

Im looking for an answer as well. my 91 4runner just started leaking in the rear of the engine after i just did a radiator swap. I cant see the leak point and it does not appear to be a hose. any help would be nice!

sadly nope, still havent found the source. not really looking for it though, pulling the engine/cross over pipe is too much trouble to deal with now

Remove the hood & have someone rev the engine while you observe the upside down U-shaped bypass hose directly behind the plenum. That's the MOST likely leak location.

Thought that too and replaced it, even if it were leaking before, its not leaking there now.
Dry all in that upper area now

There's also a couple of coolant hoses going into & out the back of the Throttle Body...
