i have a 91 pick up I bought I just noticed that speedometer n od dosent work anybody suggestions

Look and see if the speedometer plug is plugged into the transfer case, that's where I would start

 

Try searching for threads concerning the speed sensor. I believe a 91 will drive the speedometer and odometer via a speed sensor rather than a mechanical cable. I know my 1992 does.

 

91 is still cable driven.

 

i checked the wire to the trans its connected, what do you mean its cable driven no sensor ? anymore advice thanks for all the help

 

The wire on your trans is for your reverse lights.
What your looking for is on the back of the transfer case near the driveshaft

The cable is right in front of the tailshaft of the transfer case (4wd) or Transmission (2wd).

Take it out of the transfer case and put a drill on it. You can turn it with the drill to see if it turns the speedo/odometer. You'll find out quick if the cable is broken inside the sheath or there's a problem behind the gauges. I believe you can also look inside the hole on the transfer case and check the teeth on the speedometer gear. Pull the gauges, remove the speedo cable from that end and turn the drill again. That'll tell you if the speedo cable is broken. If the cable turns and the teeth in the transfer case look good then the problem is in the gauge.
