speedometer bouncing

My 95 has a bouncing speedometer when I drive it which usually causes it to be at least 5 to 10 miles off on the speed , I sure cops love that. I talked too my shade tree mechanic and hee said I should pull out the cable that attatches too it and lubricate it with graphite, which I have no idea how too do. I tried looking it up in my chiltons repair manual but nothing any ideas?

your 95 has an electronic spedo... no mechanical cable to lubricate.

Not necessarily true - I have a 95 and it has a mechanical cable. My speedo went from bouncing to not working at all...It was the cable that was going bad and then completely broke. I replaced it (what a pain in the arse), and all is well.

oh now i gotta be mean to you too!!!

They used the Cable up until 92. In 92, they switched to the electrical speedo/speed sensor. In 1995, they switched back to the cable style, since apparently the electric style was prone to failure. They stuck with that until (97???i think?? or 98, but i think its 97) When they switched to an updated Electric speedo.
