Stupid question, but this will be my first spark plug change on this engine. What else besides wires and plugs should I change out? Good running truck, never any troubles just wanting to do preventative maintenance. Also, what size deep socket to pull the plug out with? Thanks, from a diesel guy with little gas engine knowledge.

 

You might want to include a cap and rotor .

You might want to use a spark plug socket 13/16"

Air filter he if you don`t change it with the oil.

might want some never seize for the plugs Dielectric grease for the spark plug wires.

For what it is worth I had miss issues till I started using Toyota wires.

Do you have to set timing when changing cap/rotor?

 

No not most times!

Had a helper that decided he needed more room to work so he pulled out the distributor to change the cap and rotor.

Now that was interesting.

 

Yeah cool ok, that's like pulling the motor out just to change the injectors. Hopefully the timing won't be an issue. I bought the truck a year ago now, haven't touched anything but oil changes, air filter, and brakes.Oh , and a few days ago my A/C belt loosed up from running A/C all day driving 85+ on a highway trip. But also only put about 10k on it in 1 year.

 

Ok went with Borg-Warner wires and NGK plugs from O'Reilly. Old plugs were a different grade NGK btw..#3 and #4 plugs were totally corroded, amazing the truck still ran. Also did the fuel filter today as well. We'll see if the mileage improves now. Truck has a little more pep now.
