Source for rebuilt w56Transmission

Greetings!

I have been searching your site for a few months while I helped my son rebuid the engine on a '89 4wd truck. PO trashed it! Engine is running great, but we are now finding that the transmission is going out.

We are both new to Toyota's and are constently learning where to purchase good parts. We are looking for a good quality rebuilt transmission, W56C, for the truck. have the means to remove and re-install, but not to actually rebuild one.

Was hoping all of you experrienced and knowledgable guys & gals good direct us to vendors for transmissions. We are located in Eugene, OR. Would like to find something fairly close to keep shippping cvost down.

Thanks,

Mark

PS - I promise I will post a thread this weekend introducing me and my son along with pics of his truck.

Marlin is the only one I know who rebuilds them. If a tranny shop says they can they are lying as not even Toyota dealer techs have the specs or knowledge to rebuild them from what I've been told and where do you get parts except from used trannies.

Good luck.

Sorry for the delay in responding....dang job keeps getting in the way

After much research, I agree with you mr. wabbit. All local shops won't quote rebuilding, just give a range of "1200 to 1500 maybe". Looks like we will be buying the Marlin rebuilt trans. Since my son is a finanacially struggling student, he's saving.

Thanks for all your advice.

Give these guys a call; Cal Mini Trucks (calminitruck.com) 909-622-1381 I just purchased a rebuilt 22re from them, great service and the motor runs like a top. I know proximity could be a problem, but maybe you can work something out. Do not let the fact that they are a dismantler scare you, they specialize in Toyota, family owned business, all around good people.

Good luck

Marlin is definitely the way to go for Toyota transmissions. I bought a Heavy Duty W56 for my 86 4Runner 4 years ago and it was solid.

UPDATE!!!!!!

We (my son) finally saved enough to purchase the Marlin W56Transmission. Marlin sent the new-rebuilt trans in a returnable shipping container. After installing the new, just put the old into the box and dropped it off at Fedex.

Have only 1000 miles on it so far. Very good transmission, even has Marlin's signature on the case!

I would highly recommend Marlin for a rebuilt transmission.

I just talked to the who I sold my truck to. (txclimber on this board) and he told me the W56 Heavy Duty tranny from Marlin lost 4th gear after about 2 years. I hope you have better luck with yours than the Marlin tranny I bought.

I would check the Marlin board in the classifieds section. You may find find a used one there.
