Solid Axle progress..

More progress on the axle.. Mike (MSR) Mikes Specialty Repair here in Humboldt suggested using a sanding flap instead of a grinder. HOLY! I have never used one in all my grinding life. That thing works like a charm! 80grit and 120. The flaps are not cheap but the thing leaves a perfect surface.
I also took the third apart. I didn't really need to but I bought a new Craftsman torque wrench last week and I was itching to use it. I know I didn't need to torque anything but I just wanted to get it out of the box and get it in my hands.
Anyway, thats the progress so far

Borat voice "bery nice"
I haven't seen your truck around town, do you frequent the E-town? Also to save your truck some down time you can cut and weld the frame tubes and tack in the front spring hanger and still have your truck drivable in the mean time.

I was in Eureka today at Sears for that Craftsman sale they were having. It was total mayhem. ahhahah I shoulda know better the day after Thanksgiving. What was I thinking? Stupid snap ring pliers I bought didnt work very well anyway.
I still have to order the SA kit and then I can start to weld some stuff. In the meantime it is sand and clean
I got some progress on the hubs today. I was surprised to see they are in pretty good shape. I just need to replace the o ring and the gaskets.

Thank you!
here are a couple right after I painted it. I had the stock tires on it then (last summer.) I had a big ass air compressor where I painted my truck. MAN I miss that thing. I don't have one here.
aaaaaaaaaaand soon under that front will be a SA

Hot damm that thing is sexy my project started off as a wrecked single cab 2wd that I got for free but then the wife and I decided that we can't fit in it with the kids so I started to look for a X-cab, but soon found that even that wouldn't be enough room for all of us so in comes the runner. Boy I really wanted me a 22re X-Cab. I really can't wait to see your build take off.
What bumper are you running on that beast?

Thanks!!!
I have a thread for the paint build- https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...extras-154769/
The paint color is a Toyota vintage FJ Cruiser biege # 406 (I think). All of the black I painstakingly took off the truck and painted. I had a local auto paint store make up the black trim paint in rattle cans for the trim. The grille is a Lexus black and all the trim is a auto satin exterior black.
IMHO A good compressor and gun are the key to a decent paint job. High CFM to PSI ratio and an HPLV gravity feed gun.
Hey jacruz,
The bumper is from www.Badlandbumpers.com it is the Baja model
THanks for the compliments.

I got the soft top from www.softopper.com. for 4 months of the year I load that bed down with a ton of stuff and with the old fiberglass shell I had on there it was too much weight. That softopper weighs 25lbs! The thing comes off in 5 min.
The rack is from Yakima. I found the basket at the recycling center for $50.00. I had to fabricate a few things on the basket but now it is fine.
Thanks for the compliment!

I decided to keep the Birfs and sometime down the road replace them with Longfields.
I cant seem to find a good link on the Birfs and their required upkeep.
Anyone in the same SA boat as me know if the grease below is correct for the Birf bearings and races? and.. in the photo below is that enough grease packed in there???

pack those babies full...un needed grease will work its way out into the knuckle...
more grease is not a bad thing...pack your knuckle about halfway full with grease....
