Harley,

I believe the 268 is a high RPM cam too I have the 261 cam and Ted was telling me its a down low torquey cam.. Although it feels a bit more mid range to me. You may want to double check, I could be wrong about the 268.

Yea I talked to to TED and he said for sure the 268 would be the best set up for my rebuild so I will be ordering it in the morning and if that don't do the trick it back to TED for the 261 we'll see.

The cam timing can also be advanced to shift the powerband lower in the rpm range.

Not specifically for the 22RE, but it's common gearhead knowledge that advancing the cam timing will cause peak torque and power to occur sooner in the engine's rpm range. It can't be shifted thatmuch with cam timing alone, but 500-1000rpm is a realistic range.

I have been thinking about getting one of them there cam timing gears from L.C. Engineering but $110 for 500-1000 rpm seems a bit expensive to me so if you have a link to info without paying for one of these timing gear wheels that would be cool.

I have the 261. If you don't like the 268, I'll swap ya. I've got 900 miles on it.

I'm running the 268 and love where it runs. I think for what I do the 261 is a bit too low.

Where did you end up on the cam... 261 or 268?

For a street truck, going to town, 35 miles each way, 70-80 MPH, it would seem the 268 runs the higher RPM range and would "save" the MPG more???

Love your colors on the NEW motor, lots of time a patience for painting, looks great.

The Supra AMF????? did you stick w/ stock or go back to the Supra amf?

the copper wedge/ spacer.... Not griping just questioning the parts I may be getting into....
Why copper, so the block is steel the head alum and a spacer copper? no issues w/ the head gasket I take it??

Great write up and Pics... both the engines I'll be combining into 1 are out of the truck already.... no markings on wires or hoses, not even sure if they are all there???

YOUR PICS will help me significantly thank you

Great thread w/ lots of info and links

I went with the 268 and no regrets at all I run about the same mileage in and out of D.C. everyday to work and home (45 miles each way) and can roll 75 MPH (on 35's with 5.29's 5 speed) at 3-3100 rpm and now with 4k starting to get 110-120 miles all around on a half tank with 87 octane.

Thanks for the flowers on the colors I just figured if I was doing a full rebuild I was going all the way and really wanted to find a way to add yellow in as well but it just did not fit like I seen it in my minds eye but I still really like the way it turned out with out the yellow.

I did go with the SUPRA AFM once I replaced the intake tube the popping stopped and all began running right I put the SUPRA AFM back on and it has not missed a beat since and the throttle response and idle really make it worth it if you can find one it also helps when pulling hills.

Not sure about the copper all I know is that my engine machinist gave it to me the main reason for the spacer is to make up the difference of the decking and it also helps with getting the piston to head quench to zero for optimum fuel burn and that equals better horse power and mileage.

Glad that the wright up/ pic's are doing what I hoped it would and help someone else out also if you can't find it in mine try looking up iamsuperbleeder he did his around thee same time I did mine and he did a great job with his info / wright up / pics as well.
