smittybilt rear on a 2nd gen 4runner
Anyone put a smittybilt rear tube bumper on a 2nd gen 4runner?
I've seen them on 1st gen's and seen the side panels left on. I was wondering how this would work with the 2nd gen.
Anyone done this? Anyone have pictures?
BTW I know not very many people are fond of these bumpers but try to spare me the "buy a MC or TG bumper" routine. I am looking for helpful info.

Because of the way the stock bumper fits I think it would be ok looking. the side pockets in the back will probably drop down enough to not make it look out of place. Hopefully your side pockets aren't all rusted out like mine.
Are you buying the smittybuilt new or used? If you are buying it new just watch for a used rear bumper. it will fit the body lines better and sit closer to the truck so you have less to get hung up off road. I hated my Smittybuilt rear on my first Gen.

I'm getting a front and rear set used for super cheap. They don't seem to be rusted out and all the paint is intact.
This rig is more of a commuter than a wheeler. I work in the mountains so these are more for deer busting and making sure tourists don't jack up the rear.....or if i get into a snow berm(never know).
I've seen them on the 1st gens with the bumper removed, but the side pockets left on. Wasn't sure how it would work on a 2nd gen because the sides seem to extend further to the rear.
Thanks for the input.
