Angry slow runner

I have a 86 4runner with a 22re and auto trans thats has set for 3 years. I just purchesed it and put plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil changed in everything, and just put an 02 senser into it. and it still wont get out of its way... this truck is basically stock except for 30 inch tires.. any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, the 22re with an auto in it is gutless.

For one, the automatic transmissions on the 3vze (what I have ) doesnt have much punch.

The other thing i can tell you is that since you have 30's on your truck your acceleration, especially uphill is going to be decreased unless you have regeared. The stock gearing of 4.10 is meant for the stock 225 tires and the engine our trucks have arent powerful enough to over look this.

You could try cleaning the throttle body and changing the air filter, but in reality, the automatic with an 80rwhp engine hauling a 4000lbs truck around is simply going to be gutless no matter what. Having the 30" tires will probably mean that you are frequently overtaken by wildlife on the highway.

4.88 gears, 268 cam, 9.5:1 pistons. That should wake it up a bit. And if the rpm's are too high on the freeway... meh... small price to pay so VW Bus won't pass you.

The tranny is holding you back alot

Here's what i did:

Cat back exhaust 2.25" into a 2.5" Flowmaster 40 series (with a 2.25" tailpipe...having a tail pipe woke it up), Battery/ intake swap, Reargeared to 4.56, and the best thing was swapping in a 5spd
