Shock options

Well, as many of you know I'm in the process of putting my BJ spacer/LC coil lift on and I wanted to get shocks for all four corners.

I really was interested in the OME shocks but I'm not totally sure which shocks I should get.

Would OME, Pro Comp, or Skyjacker be a good pick? Which would be the best pick?

Also what size do I need the shocks to be for my lift? (I have cranked t-bars too). (I still dunno what size I need ).

Thanks

I hear those blistins are good.

How much lift do you have (or plan on getting) over factory?

How much lift will you have over stock shock length? Get a shock that will accomodate that amount of lift.

I have some simple 2" lift shocks on the website. Nothing fancy but they work.

Typically shocks are priced in pairs.

But shocks such as these are not
http://www.wabfab.org/products/suspe...dbumpstops.htm

So not a dumb question at all.

I looked at the bilestiens but they are a little too expensive at $75 a shock for me.

As for the lift. The rear end with the LC coils should get 3-4 inches of lift over stock. The front should be around 2.5 - 3 inches of lift over stock with the 1.5' BJ spacers and the cranked torsion bars.

Thanks Wabbit.

Smod, um...i guess i would start looking around on those shock sites and see if it says "for a 4runner with 3-4'' of lift over factory"

Im not an expert on shocks by the way.

I wouldnt crank the torsion bars IMO, but you can do whatever you want. Dont let me stop ya, haha.

Are shocks for the LC an eyelet on top, or a post? If it's a post up top, you could use the stock LC shocks(I think I heard of someone doing this, dunno if they had to do it up custom though)

If you get 3" of lift from the front, don't worry about shocks...it won't flex!

I think that on my 1992 4Runner the rear are post and the front are eyelet. I'm not totally sure though.

That's what I was thinking too, on summitracing you can pick your shocks based on how many inches of lift you have.

I don't believe they changed the shock configuration for any of the 2nd gen Runners, so you have posts on top of both front and rear, eyelets on bottom of both.

Haven't tried ProComp's on my Toy, but I liked them quite alot on my lifted '87 Pathy. Good for the money, fairly stiff, but will probably fade faster than OME or Bilsteins.

Also, for the front I wouldn't get the one's for 4" of lift. They're meant for the ProComp Stage whatever bracket lift. Fully compressed with bj spacers and you'd pretty much be using the shock as your bumpstop.
Get the one's for 0-2", I think.

Oh ok. Yeah that makes sense.
I also am cranking the t-bars a little. Which will put the lift around 2.5 inches total up front. But will the t-bars being cranked not factor in for the shock size??

I know this yotatechian used these Edelbrock shocks up front.

And these in the rear:

So would tightened torsion bars factor in for what length shocks I need?

No, the range of flex is only increased by 1.5" from the spacer, not the torsion bars. Cranking the torsion bars does not affect the range of flex POSSIBLE at all. It will reduce your flex, actually, because they will not let either side come close to compressing all the way to the bumpstops.

0-2" for the front, 4" for the rear and you will be set.

Ok. I'm good with the shocks now. Thanks a lot for the help. I appreciate it a lot.

This brought up another question. I cranked my t-bars a little as you know.
Now, when I put the BJ spacers on I shimmed the bump stops 1/2 inch. With the tightened t-bars make me need to shim the bump stops even more?

Thanks
Smod

These are for the front of my 4runner. They are for a 0-1 inch lift. Would that not be good enough? The only other shock is the KYB and it's too expensive for me.
