Here is downey's site link for shocks.

You can't any way, but don't use the mv-12's in the front. they are way too soft and would dangerous. in the back they are fine, but in the front you need a little bit more firmness i think. I don't have experience with the DT prerunner shocks, but i would be interested to know how they are.

good luck.
You think 10" travel would work?
If you have a 1.5" lift and I have a 4 inch lift.. and you have 9" travel shocks... shouldn't I get a little longer?

I think I'll check out the DT's for up front, but for now I'm just going to get the rears now and wait on the fronts and just shim the stock front shocks until I can get more $$$$$.

Anyway..
You are helping a lot Alex, thanks for all the help so far.

OoooO

On this site that you posted
http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Suspen...Absorbers.html

I found the Pre-Runner DT's for my runner for the front with a 0-1.5" lift! And guess what! I have the 1.5" BJ spacers. lol. I'm pretty sure those would work up front. Right?

Thanks!

That is what i was thinking. The DT mv-12's only come in an, 8, 9, 10, and 13 inch versions and with the 13 you would probably have no up travel or very little. I think a 10" would be ok, but i would wait for someone elses opinion before you buy. Downey recommends the 10" with their 3" lift kit. That is why i think it would work.

Yeah, ok. I hope someone else jumps in! lol.

As for the front shocks those 0-1.5" lift pre-runner shocks would work? Right?

Thanks

It's really easy to figure out what length (compressed and extended) that you need.
Simply remove the shocks, one end (front or rear) at a time and cycle the suspension, measuring the distance between the shock mounting points with the axle fully stuffed and fully drooped.
There is no guessing at all now.

Simple as....

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea huh.
I would have to put the LC coils on before I did that though. And that would cause me having to ride with no rear shocks for a while.

Would it work if I measured the stock shocks fully drooped and fully squished and then add 4 inches to that? Or does it not work that way?

That is true for leaf sprung, but is it true for coil sprung? the 4runner's coil sprung suspension uses the shocks as the droop limiter. THis could make it possible to have too long of a shock.

So, on summitracing.com the Pro Comp shocks that are for a 4 inch lift for the rear have an extended length of 26.750 inches and a compressed length of 15.580 inches.

The MV-12s with the 10 inch travel have an extended length of 25 inches and a compressed length of 15 inches. It seem like they would work but I'm not totally sure??????

As for the 13 inch travel MV-12s they are too long.

you could go with a prerunner 8000 shock. they might be available in different lengths. You could call DT and talk to them about your options.

I called Downey and talked to a sales rep and he said the MV-12s with the 10 inch travel will work with my rear lift.. so I ordered a pair of those!

I also ordered a pair of the prerunner shocks for up front!

Total was $245 with tax and s&h. Not too bad I think. I just hope they're worth it!

So I got the shocks and was looking them over and they actually look like they were made sloppy.

The weld for the eyelet mount are not too good and it doesn't look like they took a lot of time painting them.

But other than that they seem and look pretty tough. tougher than the stock shocks for sure.

Yeah, fronts and rears. I'm not saying that they're crappy, it's just what I noticed. I thought for $50 a piece they would have taken a little more time at production.

I haven't installed them yet so I don't know how well they perform yet, so I cant say they suck or anything.

yeah i can't say i noticed anything worse than the stock ones. My stock shocks were really toast. the posts on the tops of two my shocks were bent at where the post went into the body of the shock. I felt they were stronger pieces than the stock ones.

I just put on my LC coils and the panhard bar drop bracket with my dad.. and we went to put the rear mv-12 shocks on and the eyelet bushing is too small.

Did you have the same problem Alex?

yes, but they sent the correct bushings in the box with the shocks? did you order them from downey? they should have sent you extra bushings.

You could probably ream them out a little bit with a drill.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that U didn't get extra bushings with them, but I will definitely double check.

I did order by phone from downey.

And I thought about drilling them out a bit but I don't have a big enough drill bit. lol. Anyway before I go buy a drill bit I'm gunna check to see if there are any other bushings that came with them.

Also, I think I'd want the right bushings so maybe I'll call downey.

take the shock up to a parts store, they might have them. They are energy performance bushings. I saw them at a 4 wheel parts when i went up there.
