shifter seat

how long did yours last?

when my shifter was finally wondering around over on the pass side floor board and still finding 4th (looking for Rev) i new it was time for a new one.

Id say mine lasted 240K miles but when i took mine apart, there was no shifter seat left in the top of the tranny. completely and i mean COMPLETELY gone!

might have something to do with it getting more difficult to find gears for the past few months....

i have a feeling a tranny fluid change in in my near future also.

Well, mine's at 104K and it's kind of hard to find third which has been really aggravating me lately so I've been considering replacing mine.

Doesn't sound like it's as bad as yours yet though

I think it was pretty bad at around 16 years, which was also when I turned 16 and started driving. I replaced it around my sophomore year in college, and it's still in good shape 3 1/2 yrs later.

Mine lasted 168000 miles.
The truck then started to pop out of 3rd gear.
I replaced the part in a matter of minutes and all is well now at 177000 miles.

my 81's tranny feels like hell in 3rd and 4th.
5th is tight, though.
3rd gear it just falls out of, no resistance at all.

in my pickup all 6 gears feel tight.
Also, 255,xxx miles.

172,000 miles and it's just starting to wander, however my transfer case one could use to be changed, if I shift from 1st to second while in 4 LO sometimes the trans shifter will knock it out of 4x4. kinda scary when it does it because then it's in neutral. When I caught it the first time I thought I blew a transfer or the hubs lol.

I replaced mine at 16 years and only 48K. The Toyota part is rubber that disintegrates. Get a Marlin Crawler replacement that is made of plastic. I hope it lasts longer.

The one in my Tacoma lasted 208,000 miles. Just replaced it a few weeks ago (was popping out of 3rd), seat had disentigrated and wadded up at the top of the shifter (1-3-5).

4x4 still has the factory one at 279,000. Starting to get a little floppy, will be replaced soon.

Mine lasted about 200,000km. I finally lost reverse and fifth, 6 months later I figured out what the problem was.
