I recently purchased the small rubber shifter boot that goes on top of the transmission over the shifter.

My question is this, how do you get it on?
It has a small hole that will not stretch over the shifter.

Anyone have any ideas?

If i get what you are saying, you are asking how to get it over the shift knob?

 

Not the knob, just the shaft.

Im with scub, maybe a little ky lube will help it on. Always keep some in the tool box

RE-RE, that KY advertisement pic combined with your signature line is freakin' hilarious!

 

Unscrew the shift knobs and slide it over the shifters.

 

It won't rip?

 

Ok dude i dont know how much more we can help you. Maybe if i try step by step.
1)unscrew shift knobs
2)Slide boot over
3)screw shift knobs back on.

If it doesnt go on with some force or ky jelly, then your going to have to make the hole bigger.
Its pretty self explanatory.

 

Dude! Chill. It's not as easy or as straight-forward as it sounds.

It shouldn't. I just did this a couple weeks ago on my transmission shifter, and will be doing it soon to my transfer case shifter.

I couldn't figure out how it would fit without tearing either.

I figured if it needed lubed to come off, it must need lubed to go back on.

I used petroleum jelly. Save the KY for better uses.

What was stated in your quote is exactly what was said previously.
Yes it may not be as easy as you would think it would be, but i think the proper solution has been stated a couple times already.
Its a shifter boot install, not a sas build.
