Here's my 22RE valve cover and intake paint mod on my wife's 91:

I think I picked up about .00001 horsepower with that.

Now if you used Ceramic paint, it'd help insulate the intake manifold for a colder air charge to the engine . . . . worth .01 hp

Keep an eye on the coil. I put one in my 91 and it started leaking oil after about 10000 miles. Even though it was spec'd for the truck, the resistance was different and it appears to have been running hot.

mine's pretty old actually. I had it in my Isuzu before I popped the HG, and even then I got it off a buddy for free, so I couldn't tell you how old or how many miles are on it, lol

next tuneup I plan on replacing it with an Accel one though

I have to take back what I said... and I feel real stupid now.
It wasn't an MSD coil, it was an Accel chrome one, universal. I was looking at the MSD's and the shop didn't have it so I got the Accel and the guide listed it for use on my 91 with electronic ignition (not points). It was like 25 bucks and lasted a year, but when the 91 started running rough I noticed the oil seepage from the tower. So it wasn't a big loss for me since I had a spare coil from my 88 (which I got with an ignitor) to put in and it's working swell.
Good luck whichever way.

Dirty engines don't bother you guys? I've always been anal about the cleaniness under the hoods of my vehicles..Even after I get done wheeling, I'll come home and clean up the mess under the hood. Easier to work on a clean engine also. Just sayin

I think it depends on where you wheel really. I like my engine clean to but if I wheel it for 5 minutes here in Maine everything is muddy as hell.

TRD stage 2 knockoff cams can be had for around $120 on summit. That, and advancing timing up to 12" or so, made some noticeable power gains on my RE.

i put a 3" tube for the intake to the stock place with a $30.00 high flow filter from NAPA and a pace setter header, it gave me quite noticeable power gains and really nice gas mileage. its a great mod if your running bigger tires to compensate for them

I did the Battery and Intake Swap and was planning on going to the cone style filter but I'm having a devil of a time figuring how to attach the filter to the AFM (MAF). Was wondering how the OP did his?
