Shackles installed!!!!

I today bought the $20 lift shackles from autozone. Was kinda iffy bout them atfirst but i am fully satisfied now that they are installed. They gave me about 1.5in in the rear of my truck an got my leaf spring off my exaust tip!(used to get wedged between spring and body when i would flex hardly at all!) Will post pics tomarrow! by the way put the shackles on the 3rd hole. Love toyota!

I had those installed once upon a time too...

I use to call them my "wtf shackles"

in the end, I ended up forking over the dough to WabFab for some real shackles

You might want to shoot some paint on them before they start rusting.

HOLY SHACKLES BATMAN! No seriously those things are junk, they bend like paper when put to the test and I give it about 5-10 real serious wheeling trips before your leaf springs are flattened out or bent, and yes they are most likely grade 5 because they most definitely do not come with 8's

ok here we go i said they were basically the same thing as other shackles, they serve the perpose, the bolts on mine are 6 grade, and for the offroading ill be doing they do exactly what i want! they got the leaf spring away from my exhaust an if it flattens my springs out i dont give a dern, there stock springs with ad a leafs! Can be replaced easily! Also trying to fit bigger tires!! So any other people want to bash me for saving some dough????

No body is bashing you for being cheap, everyone is looking out for YOUR safety and the long term damage it will end up costing you on my truck, but if you want to take it as bashing then more power to you... not my junk

They're probably not too dangerous... What are they, about 1.5" x 0.25" x 8"? If so the compressive force at which they would buckle is 9000 lb. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckling)

However, if they are only 3/8" thick then that number goes down to 3800 lb!

yeah, 10" shackles that are 3/8" of an inch thick are an accident waiting to happen..
not to mention you just pointed your pinion nearly at your T-Case, so you're going to have u-joint problems pretty soon.

Nobody is bashing you man.
When you post pics and ideas on the web you open the air for the good and the bad.

If they do what you want them to then rock on.
I would definitely hit them with a little Rustoleum though.

Just a quick note about the bolts, grade 5 is basically equivalent to metric 8.8 (see pic of WabFab shackles - though WabFab's are much larger).

That dont make since rust bucket, 3/8 is bigger than 1/4? That would mean the buckell strength would go up instead of down!!! And i dont know what your talkin bout, my pinion pointin at my transfer case?
