Found solid axle, Price?
I know this has been covered more times than anybody can count but I found a solid axle in a salvage yard today and they said I could have the axle housing for $50. I looked around the truck and some of the steering is missing the axle is still mounted on the truck and all the brakes, hubs, front drive shaft and axle shafts are there and some steering. It is missing the third. I am wanting to know what would be a fair price to offer for all that is left. I don't need the brakes so I could get some money back by selling them. I was thinking no more than $150. The truck is a 84 4runner. I want to get a idea what others have paid in other states I have read anywhere from $250-$400 for a complete axle. Thanks

for an SAS you don't want the steeering that's on it. just the housing, knuckles, lockouts, spindles and wheel hubs(you could grab the rotors and calipers and wheel hubs, but a lot of guys just replace all that with improved parts).

So I can leave the brakes, and all the steering, springs. Only thing of great importantance is the axle housing then? What about the stock front drive shaft and axle shafts. I guess I could use the brakes from my truck, and my Aisin hubs to get me started. I just don't want to leave anything behind that for some odd reason I would need..

nope, you can't use your hubs or rotors on a straight axle housing. can't remember the exact reason for the rotors(think it's a clearance issue) but the hubs have the wrong spline count.
you don't need the steering arms, tie rod/drag link or stabilizer, but you do need the knuckles.
remember, this is the cheapest part of the swap. there is a LOT more to it than you might think right now.

Yea bad thing is it is not cheap.. All the steering parts and axle shafts and the sas kit and I know there is a lot more I don't plan on this being something I do real soon I am wanting to start getting parts together now espically since I found the axle..I want to get it before it's gone. I'll need everything pictured here..http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/suspension/sas_kit.htm

I think you'll find it a lot cheaper if you get the axle hub to hub. I originally thought I'd get just the housing and find the rest of the parts later. Might depend on your patience and luck.
3rd member would be nice, factory locking hubs included would be even better. You won't use the older steering system, rotors or brakes. The Marlin kit (rotors, steering) and original IFS calipers are used instead.
I paid $400 for my '85. Hub to hub. That was all internals, 3rd member and factory locking hubs. In my area, it was difficult for me to find an axle, let alone an '85 with the full factory gusset.

Everything is there except the third somebody took both front and rear but everything else is there brakes, hubs, calipers, springs front drive shaft...It would be a good start for me seeing that I would be in no rush and parts would come when I had extra cash.
