When I was in the Army we used to use ether for cold starts on our Semis and maybe even our old 5 tons. The old timers said that once the engines got some they quickly became dependent on it.

Do u have ur afm hooked up to the throttle body and plugged in? Won't run without it. I've made that mistake more than once.

The AFM is the air flow meter. It's the big box right at the driver side front of the engine compartment just after the air cleaner. A large air intake tube goes from it to the throttle body.

If you're spraying ether into the throttle body, you likely have that intake tube disconnected. In that case, there's no air flowing through the AFM. Without air flow, the fuel pump is cut off. This is a safety feature to prevent fire in the case of an accident that stops the engine with the ignition still on.

Connect up your complete air intake system and try again. It'll probably run just fine.
