This has been my Spring Break project - Dad's old 92' Ranger. Sanded it down with 60 grit and then again with 120. Just started painting on it this morning.

Something tells me it's been in a wreck sometime in its life

Think I got it on the hood a bit thick first time around. Gonna let it set and see what I need to adjust...

Should be done by tomorrow night with two coats.

Nice Job rcross & allterrain!! I have to look into what color I'll be painting on. and now that the weather has gotten better, I think I'll get started on it soon.

anyone else have other colors they want to share? Post your photos!

Putting on the 4th coat tomorrow morning and then lightly wetsanding with 1000 grit...Only problem I've had is that the scratches from sanding with the 60 grit show through on the first couple coats. Hopefully it's now thick enough to hide that. Funny thing is I haven't used much at all. Maybe 1/5 gallon so far with 3 coats.

I'll get some final pics tomorrow if I can get the thing back together in decent time.

That house was exactly 175 feet from the truck so you can tell the peel isnt really that bad

i did all the prep work myself
wet sand 400 then 600 bondo and full primer coat
payed a buddy with $30 beer and the 2 half gallons of of paint cost $170 100 base 70 clear and i have a bunch left over

Well all - looks like after I get my axle doe and tippy back I will have a week where I can do the roll on method (for the base coat) and then start masking off for my Moab camo. I am cueious to see if I can use the roll on method for the camo spots too. We'll see....

I was told to use "Dupli Color - by Paint shop" What did each of you use? I am looking to get a maroon red, (base color) light greym dark grey and black. I want all of them to be flat but I am not sure I can get those colors in flat...

Wow, perfect time for this thread to come back up. My truck was recently vandalized with paint stripper (after painting it a few years ago!!!!) so I need to completely repaint the whole truck. I picked up a gallon of Rustoleum Safety Red and have been testing this method on a spare door, so expect to see a thorough writeup soon in the 84-85 section...

If you are spraying the Rustoleum Prof. oil based paint I recommend putting it on very thin. If you spray it on too thick it wont harden very well, the exterior layer will harden while the inner layer will stay wet for awhile leaving the paint soft. I put about 12 layers of super thin paint with about 6 hours between coats and it hardened very well.

Next week while Troy is in Hungary I begin my Moab Camo paint job. Looks like I will use the roll-on method of a a maroon red for the base coat and then do camo spots in another shade of red, lighter grey and black. Haven't gotten everything nailed down yet but it is getting there...

Color Ideas....
