sure you could probably pull the piston down and out of the motor through the bottom, but you HAVE to remove the cylinder head to install new pistons

Even if you could get the pistons out the bottom, how are you going to get them back in considering you have to compress the rings?
Also, if you're going to replace the pistons and rings, you'll need to hone the cylinders.
And before you hone the cylinders you should check the cylinders for taper, out-of-round, etc. ream the ridge at the top, and have the block machined as necessary to correct any deficiencies and this could require oversized pistons.
