replacing parking brake cable
I have a parking brake cable that needs replaced at the handle. I read on here it helps to take the dash apart, so I've gotten that much done, but I need a little more help. I don't see a way to get the handle out of the dash. I see a few bolts I can remove, but the bracket holding it in place goes into the dash and I don't know if it will even come out once those bolts are removed.
I have a service manual that doesn't have any information on removing the cable. Just adjusting it, and even then it doesn't have the procedures for that.
My dad thought he saw a pin that needs to be pulled out, but we tried with some vice grips. That was a no go. So now I need some help before I break something else or waste away my weekend.

Ugh. I hate the internet. I found this after searching Google: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f166...pickup-164296/
I wonder why I didn't find this before when I searched directly through the Yotatech system.

I had to replace my speedo cable a few months back (mine is the type that the speedo and P-brake cables exit through the floor at the same grommet). I think I'd rather take a beating than go through that again. IIRC, there are 5 bolts holding that style of p-brake handle in, 3 under the dash, and 2 through the firewall.

Hey a mod ive always wanted to do was run an extra brake cable one for left one for right.... And my reasons are to make a temporary locker for 4 wheeling.... Tire brakes free and lock it up with a brake..... With this in mind connect both together for normal conditions

Back in the eighties a company had a system that did just that with hydraulics .
From the video they showed it looked like it would work I have no idea what happened but it never caught on as far as i know.
