Good one. I had actually just crancked up the torsion bars about 5-6 turns and installed new leafs in the rear. Hindsight 20/20... would have been nice to have a lift for her but I was toying with the idea of installing BJ Spacers this summer. Oh well!

Yes sir,... when you see those suckers hanging,... the driver either has a serious case of BO going on, or is hiding something.

Heck, where did I leave off???... Oh ya, so about two weeks ago the adjuster calls me and says, we'd like to offer you $3996 tax, tags, and title for your 93 truck. I said no. I said Kelley BB was $4,080 and I had a lot invested in the truck with upgrades, including tires, Rancho shocks, add a leafs, new water pump, drive belts, fronk crank seal, Alpine audio system, Alpine Bluetooth, and all the dealer receipts for repairs to go with it. I asked that he kindly re-consider.

A week goes by and I haven't heard a peep. I know these guys are busy and all but I want to get on with my life and get it fixed or get another vehicle. So after a lot of research on comparable vehicles in my local/regional area, I call and meet with the adjuster at a central location. Vehicles in my area, around my vintage truck, were going for roughly $4500-$5500. I saw one out of Dillsburg PA going for $6999 but it was an auto, 22RE,...basically the same truck though. I printed all this info out for him, including my receipts and gave it to him to look over. He said he would get back to me.

I get a call Friday saying that the adjuster was going to try and get me $5500 and that it would be a 'nice settlement". Well, I get a call today and he offers $4500. I said no dice,...gotta have at least $5000 with all the info and help I provided. I get another call later today and the offer is $5007. I am really getting torn at this point because it was becoming more reasonable, but what the heck am I going to find for $5000?

I call my body shop friend who owns the joint where the truck is. They want $6000 for the truck to be repaired with a warranty,... all genuine Toyota Parts except the side panel swoosh/decal (James Dean) and no guarantee (at this point) that they won't find something else bent or damaged with the steering or suspension,... could go another $1200, worse-case scenario. I also asked how he felt about the offer and what I might do about either fixing it or putting the cash out for something else. He was surprised that the lizard company offered me so much for my old 93. It was a nice offer, but the truck is (was) nice too.

So I called the adjuster back after the last offer and I said I would take the $5000 but I wanted the truck back too (no salvage fee). If I keep the truck, I will have to shell out at least a $1000 for the repair. Guess we'll see what happens next. What do you folks think ?

Oh,... have anyone of you seen prices for a used 2005 4Runner lately?,... with 100K miles, Sport Edition, reasonably clean condition,...ya, $14000,...
The saga continues,... stay thirsty my friends.

I told the adjuster that they should go after the policyholder to assist me in making payments towards a newer vehicle too. He just said that that wasn't his department.

Sure would deter a lot of people from drinking and driving wouldn't it!?

fight Gieco. Thats not a loss. Control arm, CV joint, re-alighnment, some front end suspension stuff. As for the body, I don't know what VA is like for Toy body parts. I would suggest talkin to DeathCougar.....but shipping body parts from WA might be expensive. Very sorry to hear 'bout the accident, tho.

I think the 5 grand and the vehicle back is a good settlement. IMO I would take that and be happy with it.

Find a decent truck and swap your parts over. Or just keep a lookout for a good body and swap the body on. And use the rest for upgrades or a new play toy

Yeah id say take the money, buy it back and turn it into a wheeler. Then with the leftover money you can buy another pickup or a 4runner

Yep, the money is getting better with each call I get, but at this point getting into a car payment is not realistic for me. This is my DD and I kept it clean and running well. Really can't do the wheelin' thing at this time in my life as I have no cash to fix whatever might break.

My buddy at the shop reached out to me and said take the money and the title, he would then wave the 17 days of storage fees to the lizard company if they did this deal for me. Thought that was pretty damn nice of my friend to save fees and make this whole thing work out. I'd like to see the truck fixed if possible. I know I am taking a risk if something in the drivetrain or a valve blows up sometime in the future,... but hey!,... it's a Yota and I am standing behind it because I know what I have in it.

Ya,...it's getting sweeter each time I talk with the adjuster,...BUT,... when everything is said and done, I still have just over $1000 to get the truck back to where it was pre-accident state.

So, for you folks doing the math and logic at home, I have money coming out of my pocket because a drunk a$$hole hit my ride. Go figure.

Have you tried going thru your ins. See if you can do all the repairs you want to have done through your ins. and then have your ins. go after his and also get compensated for your leg work and time without your truck, being that it is your DD. Think about getting your ins. involved, after all, you do pay them also. At the very least, talk to your ins. comp. and see what all they can assist you on.

my $.02.....
file a claim with your ins company. make sure they get the police report, repair costs, and vehicle replacement estimates(which it seems you're already on top of). if you accept the insurance offer, you cannot later sue. sue the DRIVER for what you think will make you right. the isn't an issue about fault, but about compensation. ins co's got to be the filthy rich greedy f#$%wads they are not by paying fair values but by low-balling.
- glad you arrived early enough not to be pancaked between the mitsu n yota, but sad you didn't get there late enough for bonehead to just get curb rash n grass stains and leave your baby in the beautiful shape she was in.
is there a rental car involved? any other property damage?

i would look on the auto traders, craigslist, dealers and try to find some examples of other truck in the condition yours was in print the adds and then give them to the adjuster showing. telling him you have researched and based on market value your truck is worth $xxxx. you should be able to make your point that your truck was a rare truck, not just a standard everyday beater.

Yep,...already done. Even provided my adjuster with all the dealer work and upgrades on the truck for over the past 7 months. Was able to find values on these trucks from as low as $4500 all the way up to $6998. That's right,...$7K. I found a beauty in Dillsburg, PA just like my truck but it was an automatic 22RE ExtCab Delux, 150K miles.

Thank you for the kind words. Nice to see the concerned posts from the membership regarding my personal safety because I could have lost a leg easily if the timing had been right.

Yes, rental is involved at this point and have had one for three weeks now. No other property damage except some dead grass where my passenger truck wheel landed after being struck.
