Excellent search tool, great link Wavekayaker!

On your truck, lets hope the "A" pillar isn't damaged too badly, that would for sure total it! (didn't think about it in earlier post)

I may have used the regulator from the 84

hmmm then it might be even easier to convert a vent to a full. ........ I know the door panel is a little different as well on mine. The vent window panel on mine doesn't go up the full amount towards the window like the full does. The top part is bare metal on my vent window door.

Thanks man I would have never thought it was possible. Not like something like that is in a book anywhere. lol.

I pretty much just used the door shell and transferred everything over from one door to the other

Yep,... got the call today. The adjuster made the decision of a total loss. You should have heard me on the phone, I was pleading something fierce for my truck.

A couple of details,...
1) The issue with the door being caved was a big deal.

2) The suspension components were damaged severely.

3) Have been initally offered approx. $4k for the buy out.

4) The truck was considered in Excellent / Retail condition throughout,...interior, exterior, and mechanically... was graded a 4.7/5 scale. This grade upped the value approx. $500. I prided myself on this as I really kept the truck looking and running as it should with all records/receipts, etc.

Kelley BB value on it is $4,080. I asked the adjuster to speak with the body shop for an addendum as the separation point between the total loss payout and the actual cost of repair is between $700-$1000. I also asked that the adjuster speak with his supervisor about considering the repair of the vehicle. Will hear something tomorrow hopefully.

I am fighting for what is right and stated that I could not find a truck, in this pristine condition, for that kind of a $$ buy-out. End of story,...

ok so they are offering you 4K and a total out, ask them how much to buy it back.
I bet the thieves of an insurance company say 3K. It wouldn't surprise me.

Oh ya,... I went by the 1990 V6 3.0L P/U with the 57K on it,... what a freakin mess that was. "Rare" hardly... the rig was rusted in all fender corners, dents at all the corners too, with a rear rusted bumper bent up into the bed. Inside was fairly clean. A/C took forever to get cold and it needed a brake job pretty badly. I pushed the pedal almost down to the floor to engage the pads. Somebody had spray painted it in a few places too. Dude said he initially had listed it for $8K was offered $6.5K by another buyer and didn't take it. I walked on it,... cosmetics poor, poor fuel mileage, weak(er) V6. He didn't know if the head had been done on it either.

Spoke with mechanic that works on my truck,... said go with a 95-96 Taco,... maybe, I can find one. Just to let you know,... I am a bit OCD about things being clean so this might be a monumental task for me.

No,... cost to repair is about $4700-$5k (before addendum by body shop),... I was trying to get the buy out price higher because the truck is in pristine condition.

Rechecked.... salvage price is $760.

Hey xxxtreme22r-
Thanks for sticking around & showing some interest in this,... appreciate the help/advice. Nice to know that others care about their vehicles too and recognize the worth of them.

well if you saw my truck in person and read through my build thread, you'd think differently about that. I just care that mine works the heck with what it looks like. hahaha. But I got more money into my rebuilt motor then the truck is worth so your right on that account about what it's worth to someone non-monetary wise.

That's a BIG 10-4,... like I said, we are separated by about $700-$1K,... something I personally think the 'lizard' can make happen for me. That kind of money is a drop in the bucket to them.

on a side note, call your insurance company and see what they tell you as well. I am not completely sure how that works but I have seen in the past where the owners insurance covers then goes after the others. Happened to my college roomate where they other person's insurance company wasn't acting in a timely manner, he claimed it on his and his ins comp went after the other person's.

Yep,... herein is my dilemma. Great truck, perfect condition, lot o' memories, kept to Toyota spec. Kinda crushed and in shock. Somebody is going to get a nice parts truck in a boneyard somewhere and I get hosed with $4k!

What in the bloody hell am I going to buy with $4k????????
My wife said get a motorcyle,... I thought about buying a lot of beer

Ya, everything has been pretty civil thus far and I made a few requests. See what happens in the AM but I am not too hopeful. I think I might be able to get the buy out up some but a total repair is a stretch for them. There is also the question of how it will drive afterwards, body warranty and work, etc. Agreed that a lot of the damage is cosmetic though. Tough call,... wish I was mechanically inclined and had the time to do it myself.
