reattaching bed panels??

I have an 87 pickup. As most of you may know, the bed is in sections and is held together by some sort of adhesive. Does anyone know what this adhesive is? Some of the lower panels on my truck are coming apart and I would like to repair/reattach them.

Thanks

I don't have a clue but heres a bump for ya so that some of us might learn something new. Useless Yota knowledge is a good thing.

Why not chop it off and build a custom bed ?

I think there's some spot welds here and there holding the sides on, but I'm not sure.... what panels are you talking about?

Thanks for the bump, I'd like to keep the original bed.

That would help.... A buddy-a-mine had an old toy and took his bed apart to keep just the bedsides (like a baja truck) and said he had to just drill out some welds, but his was a first gen.

Here's some pics. In the third pic, it's not coming apart but you can see the bead of material that is used to hold the panels together.

There should be a lip on the back side of those 2 panels where they meet. The bead is just a sealant I believe. I think that was to keep s**t out of the joint HAHA. lol

That's what I was beginning to think. But does anyone know exactly what the sealant is?? Any bodyshop pros out there?

Ya I didn't think to say that they are spot welded together. But you could drill and use a pop rivet if you can't reweld it. I have done that before.
