I can't figure out how to get the new window in there. It seems like it has to go in from the top, but I can't get the top trim piece off. Anyone ever done this before?

Also, what kind of grease should I put on there? The "new" junkyard window has some pretty rusty brackets.

 

I just recently swapped the window over from my 95 to my 91... You only have to remove the inner window trim that is on the inside of the door, mine just snapped out with a little pressure. You should replace the rusty brackets while you have the window out if they are that bad. Then just slide the window into the slot (a second set of hands is good) and with the inner arms up you'll have to play with the key in the door to position the whells properly and pop them back into the track.

 

I'm trying to get them in the track right now, but any way I swing the arms I can't get it to work....And how do you replace the brackets? My old ones are nice and shiny, but the "new" ones are old and crappy.

Is there some kind of glue you have to use?

 

All done. It's a PITA. Also, there's no way to do it by yourself.

 

I disagree! I have replaced rear windows in my 87, 86, and the 90 i used to have. By myself.

meh i just follow the FSM.

If you lock the drivers side latch, you can raise/lower the regulator with the switch inside the cab with the gate open. With the latch locked in place, the system thinks the gate is shut and will allow the window to go up and down.

 

I didn't even look at it, I didn't think it'd be in there.

I could never get it to think it was closed, even when I moved both latches. My 4Runner is too smart haha.
