Get the rubber kind, plastic will end up breaking again, I don't know the part number, I got them from a couple wreaked Toyota's in a salvage yard in the 90's, I had 4 left to replace broken ones on the my 93, so I think they were on early 80's trucks, maybe they can still get them, it's worth asking, good luck :}

I'm assuming these are simply a means of preventing rattle in the tailgate? I've looked at mine (intact) and always wondered what they do...

x2 on the rubber kind .. the only 4runners i have been able to find them on is the 84 runner , not even the 85 runners i went through at the junk yards had the rubber ones .. so i think only the early runners had them .. im still trying to get a complete set together. by the way im going off the date that was on the vin plates on the runners .

I don't remember what vehicle they came off of, It was back in middle 90's, If I sell my 93 I'm taking them back off for the next toy, Rubber ones are so sweet, you never hear a rattle from the stamped tailgate supports :}
Do Taco's have the plastic kind too or do they use the rubber coated cables from 95.5 on? Girlfriend want me to get rid of the 93 for a quad cab Taco "More room she says" :{ Not sure I want too!!!!

Update:
I just looked on Toyotapartseatst.com and it too show that part number and they do look like the rubber kind, go to dealer and order 1 and if it is the rubber ones order 3 more or bite the bullet and just order 4, they show there still available, good then I don't have to take the ones I had off if I sell it, Woo Hoo :}

I came up with:
6577889104
6577889102
...depending on what year you are looking at. Probably one is plastic and the other the rubber with 104 likely being the rubber per RMA's info
