Rear R&P

It's been a while so bear with me.I have the task of rebuilding my rear third and have a question or two.I have factory 4.87's and I know to use another carrier,I have a 4.10.What pinion shim should I start out with? The old one out of the 4.87?Where should I buy the gears and bearings?

Not sure I understand the question...

If you have factory 4.88's you need a whole new thirdmember, not just a carrier since the housing for the third has the pinion offset for the 4.88.

Yes the whole thing is what I have.Sorry for the confusion.I will be using the 4.10 3rd with the new 4.87 gears.I just hate to trial and error the shims when there is a shot at getting them right on the first try.I don't have the tools to do it perfect on the first try.

Where did you get the 4.88 gears from? If they are after market, its ok. If they are factory, you cannot use them due to the offest design tc was describing.

for some write ups you might want to check out Zuk's website, http://gearinstalls.com/ he has a ton of info on there, you might find out some more info there...
