rear axle bearing tool (homemade)
Anyone got some details they can share with me ?
my hunting rig 91 4 runner has a bad noize , I figure it is rear wheel bearings.
I have an old housing , but not sure what to do with it for a tool.
thank you kindly

I had both axles out of my truck , and 3 out of my parts trucks yesterday.
I was told you need a special tool to remove and install the bearing from the backing plate.
the tool a guy mentioned , was made from an old housing

that was helpful

When did it, the backing plate stayed with the axle housing.
Axle came out with bearings. All that was needed was press and bearing separator.
What year truck?

Check out my build thread and you'll see what I did for pulling/installing rear wheel bearings, post #7 & 8 if this link doesn't work:

I did that method that emsvitil is talking about, except I cut the bearing retainer off first. with that out of the way using the drop method works well. Even in the FSM, using the oem tool you were supposed to get the retainer off first.
