Questions on manual hub swap?

I am currently installing Aisin Manual Hubs on my 95 4Runner and taking out the ADD. I have read a few treads on here on how to do the procedure and am getting reay to do it tomorrow. Though I have a friend with a 93 4Runner that is all tricked out and did a Taco supercharged engine in his. He is telling me that i have to mess with some vacuum hoses to the front transfer case or my 4WD will not work. I have not read anything about that on this site. Can anyone tell me if this is neccessary and if there are any posts about it! Thank you!

Your friend is wrong...

I just installed them on my 4runner. You don't need to mess with any vacuum hoses or anything like that. Just install um, check um, and your ready to roll.

like kyle said, you don't have to mess with any vacuum lines. just remove the drive flanges, replace with the manual hubs, make sure you tighten everything back up to spec, and you're good to go. Make sure you get a brass drift(mine's 1/2" x 8") to remove the cone washers...they can be a pain the first time you try to remove them.

yea i did my last weekend and really all you got to do is pull the endcaps off the axels(gold bearing cap) then the gold bolt and washer put the hubs bottoms on then the gold washer and bolt and cap its that easy I do harleys and i did my hubs in like an hour by myself but had to pull wheels to get the center caps off its really easy no vacume lines at all to mess with.

Sounds like some miscommunication to me. When you say "taking out the ADD" that could mean removing the stock drive flanges or it could mean defeating the whole ADD system. The last of which could involve some messing with the vac lines.

Leave the ADD alone and just swap the hubs. It really is that simple.

It was different for the pre-95.5 trucks, you must have a Tacoma right?

You can go ahead and defeat the ADD system to while your at it. This is the very 1st mod I did on my truck the first week I had it. One of my vacuum lines was broke and my 4wd was not engaging so I did this. Took all of an hour and .86 cent plus gear oil and now I don't have to worry about the vacuum system failing me when I need it.

HEre is the article

edit: after a thread i found over at ttora, i DO need new CVs as the ends are apparently different between manual hub and ADD

Make sure you also look at the Yotatech 95.5-2004 Tacomas & 96-2002 4Runners section, drguitarum2005. Not trying to run you out or anything, just pointing out that we're specifically talking about 86-95 trucks in here.

Question, I thought there was a conversion kit you had to add when switching to manual hubs? Something about the spindle nuts or something. Could anyone clarify.
