Problems with reverse and idle

Well I bought an 86 toyota 4runner. ended up having a bad crank, bearings, head gasket, and a blown valve...So I dropped in a rebuilt 22R engine. Now it's running but sometimes dies when going in reverse when not giving it gas and feels like it wants to die (kind of like cuts out) anytime I stop at a stop sign/light, ect. Any ideas what could cause this. Also doesn't seem like it has the power that it should (it is an A/T though). Also I would like to add in another question - When I bought the truck the o/d button was taken out, Could the guy have replaced the tranny with one without o/d or was he just an idiot that removed it.

well your first problem is that its a used 22R LOL
The second problem is that its a used A/T that sucked when it was new.
The third problem is probably that the engine needs tuned up to run the best that it can. You may have a low idle speed, a low compression, or bad/worn out plugs or plug wires. You should have just rebuilt the old 22R that came out. They cost about 1,000 bucks to do the right way.

It was a rebuilt 22R from a shop for one.
For two, I actually agree because A/T blows
For three, I just re-did plugs, wires, cap, rotor.
Haven't checked the idle speed, Compression is 150 PSI all across.

Meant rebuilt. It's not carburated. It's fuel injected.

on here, make sure you say 22re rather then 22r, it does make a world of difference.

do you get any CEL's ?

since you have new plugs and ignition things..

I would start by checking your tps (throttle position sensor) per 4 crawler.

No it was originally a 22R, I just swapped the carb and manifold for the injectors and manifold. So yes I forgot fuel injected means 22re. I am new to this whole toyota thing.

No. Because it had a 22re in it before.

So let me get this straight, it had a 22re in it, someone put a 22r(carburated) in it, then you put the injectors back on it ?
