problems with "oe brand" ball joints

i got a set of upper and lower balljoints for my pickup and i went to install the lowers and the bolts holes were not lined up correctly, they were close but not close enough lol so i had advance order another set of lowers and i had the same problem.Im taking all 4 back for a set of moogs which are 2x the $ but i was wondering if any one else ran into a similar problem?

what year is your rig? I have an 89 4Runner, but I find that alot of the time when i get new parts, I have to get them for an 88 4Runner - I had no idea there was going to be that much diffeence with so many parts.

Are you sure they aren't for a 2WD? Because any lower BJ for a 86-95 4WD truck or 4Runner are all the same part.

And I don't recommend Moog. OE brand is 555.

Huh? Well I don't know what it could be then. They do have two part numbers, one for the left and one for the right. What's the difference is beyond me. I guess I'd try matching them up to the correct side(if that's even possible?). They also changed part #s after 89, I come to find out. Again though, what the difference between the 86-89 & 90-95 BJs is I haven't a clue.

Moog just sucks. I don't like their style, never have. From what I've seen/heard their stuff is weak on top of it. And like I've said before, OEM Toyota ball joints are the best ever made. Practically indestructable.

Are you the original owner? Is there a possibility that the lower arms have been replaced with arms from another year?

not the original owner so anythings possible but i did take note that the oe brand joints were not all the same, minor differences in all 4 and its not like the bolt holes were all off the same way.i think its just bad casting/quality control.

Well one of them would fit one of the sides if they were like that. Most aftermarket(if not all) are only one part number for lower BJs.

I don't get it, but good luck! I hope those Moogs fit!

I believe this is the problem. I ordered Mevotech lower ball joints a while back and the bolt spacing was just slightly off and would not fit. They only showed one part number, not a 2WD and 4WD part number. The second set was better but a little off too. Those fit although the bolts were very snug inside the holes. Who knows.

Definitely going with Sankei next time.
