What version of dexron is everyone using since dexron II is no longer produced?

I use this stuff:

Toyota part number: 00718-ATF00

I didn't want to mess around with the Dexron / Mercon universal "one fluid fits all" ATF. Sure, they might work just fine, but I know the Toyota ATF/Power steering fluid is compatible.

Toyota has said that Dexron III replaces Dexron II where Dexron II was originally specified.

Walmart Super Tech Dexron 2/3 automatic transmission fluid. Been using it in older GM automatic transmissions too with no problems.

thanks much. Finding Even Dex III around here is almost impossible, dex VI no problem.

Power steering is starting to feel heavy and the pump is starting to groan so ordered up a new pump. The old one has been rebuilt once or twice now.

As long as it's dexron based atf, it will be fine

Yep. The cap even says "dexron type atf" on mine.

i believe this implies it isn't forward-compatible; however, it is backwards-compatible. in other words, dex vi is fine in these trucks, but in any vehicle calling for dex vi, dex i/ii/iii are not fine.
