Power Antenna
If you take out the stock radio in a 4Runner and add an aftermarket radio/CD/MP3 player, does the power antenna still work?
My antenna mast is busted off, I will probably get a more updated stereo, debating if I should bail the power antenna and go with a standard whip antenna.

i agree about the $6 wiring harnesses. i always order my car stereos from Crutchfield and they include the wiring harness(es) with the stereo. you can also buy them elsewhere. your new stereo harness should have a switched wire for power antennas, that's how mine have been at least.

I think the older trucks had switches for the antennas. My didn't, but I added one.
In either case there will be a wire (probably blue) that should be labeled REM, ROM, remote on or something like that, that is used to turn the amp on and off. Connect this wire to the blue wire that is under the dash. Now your antenna will go up and down. If you want to run an amp in addition to this (like me) just add both wires (from antenna and amp) to the same wire. If you want to be really cool (like me) add a switch to both the amp and the antenna wire after the split. Now you can control the antenna and the sub.
Good luck!

Huh...I have a lead going to my amp...Now that I think about it I did have a wire leftover after I put in a new head unit...It seemed liked a ground though.
Is there a ground wire back there for the power antenna motor?
