Spun rod or main bearing help.
So driving up a steep grade near my home a couple weeks ago i spun a main or rod bearing. Upon further inspection the oil gauge apparently is broken and the engine only had a quart and a half in it when i checked it monday. Upon further inspection and removal of the oil pan we found what looked like a blown bearing. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could lead me to a walk through or some other means of information dealing with this matter.

I guess I'm late in the game here. Not sure if this is a v6 or a 4cyl.. Either way, if it's a main bearing, you need to pull the engine, and the crank to get the main bearings out. If it's a rod bearing, you can change it out with the engine in the truck, but it's better to pull the engine. You need to check the oil clearance before you go right out an buy replacement bearings. If it is too far out of spec, you'll end up having to get the crank machined (at the very least).
I repaired a spun rod bearing in a V6 by pulling the engine, tearing it down, machining the crank, and replacing the bearings. While it was apart, I replaced the pistons and rings and the water pump. Of course, since it was apart, it got new head gaskets and all the other gaskets.
And, I'm assuming that you think the oil guage was broke, because it showed oil pressure with low oil.
