4.88's just got me 2 mpg's. Huzzah! 22.5 on a 660 mile run through the rockies that included 8 passes to climb. Money well spent... er, well I saved 10 bucks in gas. 40 more trips like that and they're paid for.

I have been averaging 22 in my 85 4x4 with a freshly rebuilt 22re. Mainly all into driving. I need to take it on a long freeway run and compare mpgs.

stock low milage 2wd pickup, 22re, 5 speed, 3.42 gears, 26" tires, 100lbs of sandbags over the axle. All highway driving to town from where I live, a couple steep hills, constant 100 km/h gives me 480-500 km per tank, 9L/100km, or 27 mpg.

I wouldn't think the locker would impact the mpg that much. Air your tires up to 35 or 40psi (somewhere near the max, check the sidewall) and you should be seeing 18-20mpg on the freeway.

31x10.5 r15 about 30 psi, stock 4.56 gears/manual trans 4x4

2000 SC'd taco w/147k miles = 19.9mpg no matter how hard I push it...
