Exclamation overheating!!!!

i just flushed my cooling system, i was running it with just straight water and the temp gauge red normal. I then turned off the engine, removed the petcock, and drained all of the water out....after refilling it back up with antifreeze and water, she is overheating. The gauge is pointing in the red!
<<< Before the flush, she ran fine, during the flush, she ran fine, after the flush, SHE'S HOT>>>
what the hell happened.

Is she getting hot in stop and go, or on the hwy?

How did you flush your system?
Are you using a 50/50 mix of anti freeze/distilled water?

did you burp it? im assuming you didnt, take off the rad cap(when cold) and run your truck till it bout warms up, it should bubble out the air then squeeze the top hose slowly to get the air out, let it cool off for awhile, then repeat

edit. if it fails to help, maybe your thermo stuck itself shut due to only water being in there

Yup, you almost certainly have air in the cooling system.

when burping it also helps to park up a slight incline.

Replace the thermostat with one that has a small hole in it to prevent an air lock. If air traps at the thermostat the temperature will rise to a superheated condition because the temperature gage is right at the thermostat. So, go to your parts store and get a new thermostat with a bypass hole.

it first started in my driveway....then she was in the red
drove 2 miles, 50mph...when she went into the red
when i was adding anti-freeze/water, i did indeed squeeze the upper hose so that it would take in more coolant. was i supposed to do this to the lower hose as well...

When it cools, take the cap off and fill it up. Burp it, put a little in the resovoir and cap it. You should be fine

when she cooled down, took the cap off and couldn't see any coolant, so i put in about half a gallon. wow thats a lot. and burp her out. i could only figure when i first put in coolant, it hadnt stayed in the block yet. so the reason for the overheating is air in system/low coolant... I sure hope that didn't do any damage to the engine. wish me luck
