opinions on 5.29 gears

hi all!

browsing fleabay i see a machine shop is advertising a bunch of 5.29 gears for our trucks. so if you're looking for these gears, and are a DIY guy, this may be worth checking out. i don't know enough about gears to speculate.

http://motors.shop.ebay.com/ronsmach...5.29&_osacat=0

can anyone who's purchased 5.29s please chime in with opinions about the brands Yukon, Motive, or unnamed brand w/ "8620 material";

as well as opinions on purchasing pkgs which include mini or master install kits.

VS.
is it a "more efficient purchase" to send 3rds to Zuk, and use whatever parts he supplies (if he supplies parts)?

i would like to get my gears done by Z, but i don't want to miss out on a deal if these advertised prices are just too good to pass up.

all advice appreciated.

thanx y'all
Tj

If you have Ken "Zuk" do your install you can have whatever gearset and master install kit you want shipped directly to him to do the labor. He has one of my thirds right now putting in a new set of nitro 5.29's I had justdifferentials ship directly to him. I want it done right so it went to him. Being properly set up has a lot to do with the strength and durability of the gearset more so than the brand. The old 5.29 gearset he is replacing was a precision however it was totally screwed by whoever installed it and I ended up stripping teeth off the pinion gear.

^^ exactly, setup is more important than gear brand!

@ the op, i have bought a few sets of yukon/motive's with master install kits from RON. he has good service and a good price, though i have never used his brand of gears.

i either go threw him, or just differentials for diff parts.

i perfer to buy my 3rds ready to run from trail-gear.. when i was looking to regear my truck, i found that teh cost difference between buying gears, and locker, and install kit, and paying someone to install it was 100 less than buying a whole brand new one ready to go. plus i then had one to sell or use a spare...
