Ok, here we go. 89 4runner with 22re engine. It needs a cylinder head. While I'm "in there", I also plan on doing a few other things. This is what I want to purchase for it at engrbldr's.:

1. New cylinder head and cam. (I am thinking about going with their little better head with larger valves.....I think it's another 100 bucks or so for this upgraded). Truck will be doing very little off roading (as I duck for cover!!), but will be towing a small fold down camper. I need to get as much power out of this rig as possible.

2. Timing chain and guides. Do I go with the "double chain" setup? What about a timing chain cover?

3. Water pump.

4. Oil pump.

5. Will be dropping the oil pan and cleaning it.

What am I missing? Thanks for any help.

um get a 3.4 engine if you plan on towing, or look into some lower gears, youll be doin 45 the whole time tops, but if you wanna keep the 22re, i think youd want a regular kit, they are real good and reliable if takin care of properly. otherwise it sounds good.

Just email engnbldr and ask. He's the best. He answered all my emails spot on with advice. I found him very trustworthy.

my 22re didint like to tow anything i hauled a freinds honda 650 rubicon and it was atleast 750lbs with a trailer and it sucked

I guess since bringing it back from Texas last summer, I never have had it "going". Hard as heck to find time to work on it. But I do have a couple days coming up to at least make a dent in it.

Geez. The more reading I do, the more it "almost" sounds like I should rebuild the entire engine. 175,000 miles on it. As another thread said, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a great upper end and still have all those miles on the bottom end.

ya rebulid the hole thing.... i would do .30 over bigger valves 268 cam 3mm over size t/b lce header and a 2-1/4'' exhuast all the way back that should make some decent power

Well a rebuilt is 1400 bucks from orient engine... so 400 bucks extra and...

it always seems like a new timing chain (maintanence) escalates into a 3.4 swap.
