Rear main seal

Well my 90 4Runner is back in the shop getting the rear main seal replaced under warranty. My question : is it common on these old 4Runners to leak after a seal is replaced by a 'pro'? How many of you guys have experienced this?

Why would it leak after the seal is replaced unless the person replacing it doesn't know what they're doing?

sometimes a groove is cut into the crank by the seal , just enough to where oil will leak no matter how many times you put in a new one .
need a sleeve or a new crank..

or they just installed it wrong.

Well Im hoping they have enough sense to call me if theres a problem other than an improperly installed seal.If I get it back today and it starts leaking again Im taking it back again.I do know they recieved the wrong seal yesterday and had to wait on the right one to arrive late in the day.I had no leaks when I took my 90 4Runner to them for a new clutch/rear main seal/flywheel job. Thanks for the input guys.

Update : the mechanic confirmed that the rear main seal was bad.So in my mind that means one of two things (1)they didnt replace the old one the first time or (2)they replaced it,but damaged it putting the tranny back in.What do you guys think?

Lol@Jay,as it turns out they installed a defective new seal.I got the Runner back this afternoon,no leaks so far after driving 70 miles.I crawled underneath the front end to wipe the old oil residue off.Toyota gave me the wrong part for my shield. Now I got to install the right part when it comes in on tuesday.According to the toyota parts guy,I dont have to seperate tranny from engine to get it on.
