Well I am assuming its a 22r or RE. I like to throughly clean the motor first. Oil Eater works well for me and its pretty safe as well. First get the complete motor clean. ALWAYS wear eye protection when spraying any liquid to prevent splashing back in your eye. I use straight oil eater and spray it all over the motor with a spray bottle. I usually opt for more of a stream and less mist helps to force it in to some of the crevices on the front and side of the motor. Let it sit for a minute or 2 the. Hose it off. Find the areas that need another coat and repeat till it looks new.
I then get my handy little telescoping mirror throw it I. The passenger seat and go for a quick drive mile or 2 at most. Stop and pop the hood and begin to look. Don't burn yourself (extendable telescoping mirror). Take your time and look all over the motor. If its still clean the another. Short drive maybe a little longer or harder. Stop look. You get the idea. If its spewing really really bad might just be able to start it and let it run in the driveway. But most leaks show up better under load. Good luck and make sure and take pictures of your clean motor. It will help you stay inspired to keep that bad boy clean. Because they look awesome clean.
